Dates: May 24-25, 2024
Location: Harbin Workers’ Cultural Palace Theater

On the evenings of May 24 and 25, 2024, the Harbin Summer Audiophile Music Concert was held at the Harbin Workers’ Cultural Palace Theater. As the cultural capital of Northeast Asia, the “Summer Ice City,” the “Oriental Little Paris,” and the only Asian city honored as a “UNESCO City of Music,” Harbin captivated countless music enthusiasts and artists with its profound musical heritage and vibrant artistic atmosphere. Hosted by Xie Haifeng (alias “Blade Master”), curator of the Northeast International Music & Audio Exhibition, the concert featured nearly 40 meticulously curated audiophile-grade tracks spanning classical, folk, pop, and other genres. Unlike traditional live band performances, this event offered a rich auditory-visual experience that profoundly challenged and reshaped attendees’ understanding of high-fidelity audio systems.

Notably, the organizers juxtaposed CD playback with live vocal performances, allowing the audience to directly compare the distinct sonic effects. The immersive sound quality earned unanimous praise from both singers and attendees. This innovative approach validated Hermit Audio’s long-standing philosophy—that high-fidelity systems can be perfectly integrated into live concerts to dramatically enhance on-site audio experiences—injecting strong momentum for future large-scale applications of this technology.

Under the stage lights, the system radiated a vivid and harmonious presence, creating a grand and majestic atmosphere, as if a mighty army were charging forth at the call of a battle horn. Before rehearsals began, performers gathered to take photos with the awe-inspiring system.

Centered on the Guqin, the concert blended piano, guzheng, erhu, melodica, bamboo flute, dongxiao, guitar, and percussion. It featured masterpieces such as “Gold-Sprinkled Banana Leaf,” a signature work by famed Chinese guqin maker Zhang Yuxin. The performance opened with Shuiyan Xiqiao (“Mist-Clad Stream and Bridge”), where the musicians’ fingertips caressing the guqin strings, paired with the recitation of over thirty children, transported the audience to a picturesque Jiangnan watertown. Over eleven pieces, The Moon Rises (from The Classic of Poetry) painted a dreamscape of the moon ascending; Yu Lin Ling (“Bell in the Rain”) evoked the daily life of the Song dynasty; Haidao Binglun (“Ice Wheel Over the Sea”) showcased quintessential Beijing-style melodies; Changbanpo surged with intense, battlefield-like fervor, echoing the neighing of warhorses and leaving the audience breathless. The finale, Canghai Yisheng Xiao (“A Laugh in the Vast Sea”), culminated the evening in a crescendo of applause that lingered long after the final note.
